Just want to address some strange RUMORS: No, we don't have $90,000 or any amount in GoFundMe just sitting there. No, we are not busing homeless people here from out of state. No, we are not affiliated with the Dogwood Tabernacle. None of the volunteers or people on the board attends their group. No, we are not opening a homeless shelter in downtown Ava. We bought the hair salon for adding a rentable multi-purpose room and provide a decent sized men's restroom (current men's room has only one toilet). No, we are not running the Hell's Angels through our coffee shop (funniest one yet)! Yes, we are a non-profit organization based right here in Ava, Missouri. We operate nowhere else. Tom, the executive director, has lived here for 20 years, and is willing to talk to anyone who has questions. Yes, the True Brew Coffee Shop and Theater are the only entities that we operate. Yes, we have the support of area Pastors such as Shane Weaver from Highway Nazarene Church, and Bob Sorenson of Bethany Baptist Church. Yes, we sometimes permit people who do community service to volunteer for us. Their past mistakes are not a reflection of us. We love everyone. Yes, we are respectful of the other businesses and people in the community. It is not our intention to have an entourage of homeless people loitering in the downtown area, or to have homeless men being drawn to Ava due to our establishment. Our focus is mainly on helping families local to our area. Yes, we stand for the Savior of the world, who promoted righteousness, love, uprightness and truth. We want nothing to do with criminal and/or unloving behavior. Our goal is to represent Him, while still loving and respecting everyone from all walks of life and/or beliefs. Feel free to share any other rumors/information you may have heard, and would be glad to address them. Pass the word along, thanks! ... See more

We are excited to announce that Avalon Theater is now operated by Bread of Life Giving and Sharing! You may recognize us as the owners of the True ‘Brew coffee shop on the square in Ava. We are a non-profit organization and therefore we will be running a non-profit theater where all proceeds go toward providing food, clothing and other general necessities to local residents in need. We have decided to name the theater ‘Ava TrueView Family Theater’ as a wordplay on the “True Brew” coffee shop and to reflect the wholesome values we want our film choices to promote.” Our plans include the following: - First run (recently launched) movies with minimal ticket prices on some films. - Admission to all other movies are FREE or a donation, your choice! - Super Bowl party on 2/3/2019 (will the Chiefs make it?) with the big game on our theater screen. Free admission! - Our 17 X 35 stage, complete with dressing rooms and motorized curtains, will be open to the public for hosting Musicians (bluegrass, southern gospel and local bands), Plays and Theatrical performances, Church revivals, and even Business or Community seminars with Powerpoint presentations showing up on a section of the big screen. - Food and drink catering from True ‘Brew, along with discounted concessions are available for all events. In addition, we offer the ability to broadcast your event live on social media such as YouTube and Facebook, or through our own media server via a page on our web site. Cameras are provided. DVD’s or CD’s of your event can be produced in-house with our bulk disc printer/replicator. Perfect for any who want to take their experience home with them. - Because our organization also owns the True ‘Brew coffee shop on the square, in the future we also plan to offer meal & movie packages. Perfect for a planned outing with your loved ones and friends. - For young mothers with children, we also plan to open the upstairs nursery room (sometimes called the “cry room”) with some toys, coloring books and other activities for toddlers so that parents can watch films without worrying about disturbing other patrons. They can watch the film through a window while 7.1 surround will be played into the room. - We’ve acquired the same phone number formerly used by Ava Family Theater, 683-2999. FAQ: Will you be offering anything other than “kid films?” - With respect and unconditional love to any who believe differently, as a faith-based ministry we will not offer anything in our theater that glorifies sin, disrespects our Creator, or promotes a worldview that is fundamentally at odds with our faith. For those who are not of our faith, we believe many of the films we offer can still be entertaining and very enjoyable to watch. And, all proceeds from our theater will stay right here in Douglas County, being used to feed and care for the poor in our community. Some films won't be overtly Christian, but nonetheless reflect positive family values. If there is a particular film that you would like to see, make use of the Film Suggestion Box at the theater. Our soon-coming web site will also be offering a suggestions form. We do appreciate suggestions and take every one seriously. However, we are only one screen in a small town so we have limitations with some releases compared to multiplex theaters in big cities. FAQ: Can you tell me more about booking an event at your theater? For musicians we offer a full 24 channel mixing board connected to stage plug-ins, professional-grade speakers, ceiling mounted light racks, and excellent room acoustics. For business and community meetings/seminars we offer PowerPoint projection, laser pointers, and even use of the cinema projector for any films or videos you want to show as part of your presentation (just plug into our HDMI port or we can use our system). Our theater can comfortably seat 140 adults, with significant expansion seating available for families with children (contact us for details). For theatrical events, we offer full use of our 17 X 35 stage, our video and sound system, and motorized curtains. There is also a restroom and two dressing rooms behind the cinema screen. Your event can be recorded and/or broadcasted (see above). To book an event, you can stop by the True ‘Brew Coffee Shop on the square in Ava, or call us at 683-2999 and leave a message. The theater will not likely be available on weekends and/or some weeknights, depending on our schedule. FAQ: Will the Theater be staffed by volunteers, like the coffee shop? Our staff at the True ‘Brew Coffee Shop will continue to be 100% volunteer based, and we hope to do the same at our theater. If, however we cannot acquire enough volunteers we may choose to offer modest compensation for concession and event staff. Management and the Board of Directors will continue to operate the organization on a volunteer basis. FAQ: How can I keep updated on the latest movies and events at your theater? Sign up for our email list at firstname.lastname@example.org where we’ll be sending out weekly emails regarding upcoming films and events along with dates and times. Keep track of our Facebook page and soon to be released web site (Note: Facebook doesn't always show business pages in your news feed). Feel free to message us if you have any questions or comments. We look forward to serving the community by doing our part in bringing hope and inspiration to many. ... See more
